I was going to write another twitter article about twitter apps, and I’m sure I’ll do one or two in the future, but as I was using TweetDeck I thought I’d write about the features of TweetDeck. And for those folks who just started using twitter or haven’t heard of TweetDeck, here are a few features that come wrapped up with TweetDeck.
The Basics
First, TweetDeck is a twitter client that runs on your computer. You can download it here. You also need to download Adobe AIR runtime to run TweetDeck.
First and foremost, TweetDeck provides the standard twitter commands – you can send a tweet, reply to a tweet, send a direct message, retweet a tweet, view profiles and favorite tweets.
However, it’s all the extra stuff that comes with it that makes TweetDeck exceptional.
Groups
Want tweets from certain folks to stand out? Use the group function to create a column with those people you want to pay more attention to.
As you follow more people and gain followers, the tweets can fly by quickly which makes it hard to track ‘em all. Solution: Create a group column, or two or three to keep track of them. Just add the people to that group you want to follow closer.
Search
Want to search twitter in TweetDeck? Go ahead. The search button will automatically create a search column on what you’re searching for and update it automatically.
What the Buzz?
Use the TwitScoop button to see what everyone’s talking about on twitter. A column will be created with a Buzz cloud as well as what’s trending. Twitscoop is a website that tracks what’s hot on twitter.
12seconds
The last button on TweetDeck’s toolbar is 12seconds. 12seconds is a website that allows people to share status updates in 12 seconds. A video twitter in a way. You can search for a user name on 12seconds or enter the key phrase ALLUPDATES and view all videos updated on 12seconds home page.
