Republican politicians and christian nationalists, you have a beautiful family. So what will you say when your children and grandchildren grow up and find out that the harmful legislation you helped pass was fueled by your bigotry?
Because our fellow citizens, whether they be gay or straight or bisexual or trans, they’re fellow human beings.
When your children and grandchildren are high school-aged students and they have friends who are gay, when they have friends who are trans, when they have friends that are just curious about their sexuality, they’re going to ask you, why did you do it?
What you’ve done is you’ve legitimated bigotry, not just in your state, but across our country. And so when your children and grandchildren are old enough, they’ll be in classes and study things like fascism.
Students will learn the characteristics of fascism. Students will bring up the Don’t say gay bill. Students will bring up that teachers are now required to categorize books in classrooms. Your daughters and granddaughters will learn they don’t have bodily autonomy because of you. And they’ll know exactly what those laws said, what they did, and didn’t say.
Your children and grandchildren will have honest questions. I hope you’re ready to answer because you must be held accountable.
