Here’s why you might consider staying in your republican-led state and fighting for democracy.
Republican politicians are passing horrible bills across the country. They are doing so with their white evangelical christian nationalist backers.
They are completely aware that these bills will be contested in court. It seems as though they are trying to see who comes up with the most asinine bill the fastest.
They are also aware that they are chasing GenZ and millennial voters away. And they are still passing these bills anyway.
It also seems like this is being done on purpose. Like they want people to flee republican-led states. If people do flee, and republican politicians get control of enough governorships and state legislatures across the country, they can call a Convention of States, aka The Article V Convention.
If this happens, it means republican politicians could write amendments that would revoke any and most of our rights. Our right to privacy. Our right to peaceful protest. Our freedom of religion. Republican politicians could have free rein to manipulate our elections and undermine our votes.
Here’s how far they’ve gotten. They are close. Here is a map of their progress:
On The Other Hand
While the stay and fight sentiment is awesome, and we should fight for our rights, for some people, it’s not an option to stay and fight.
Missouri republican politicians are banning care for all trans people. Florida republican politicians are threatening to remove children from their homes if they are trans or you are trans or even suspected of providing gender-affirming care. Florida’s lowering the standard for the death penalty for anyone that commits an SA crime against a child.
For a lot of people, this is a survival issue that makes it hard for families to pick up and move. And there are a lot of families who can’t do that for whatever reason. There are people who are in absolute fear of this. Every waking hour is stressful filled and children are in danger of being removed from their homes. This affects people’s health and mental well-being.
We have to support everyone’s choices for personal survival. And I can’t believe I’m writing that.
