No. No. No. No. I will never say that progress is being made. If you stick a knife in my back nine inches and pull it out six inches, there’s no progress. If you pull it all the way out, that’s not progress. The progress is healing the wound that the blow made. And they haven’t even begun to pull a knife out, much less heal the wound. They won’t even admit the knife is there.
That’s why it’s not enough to be, “I’m not racist”.
We must be actively anti-racist and behave in an anti-racist manner when we actively dismantle the legacies of Jim Crow and white supremacy by reforming our criminal justice system, our immigration system, ensuring equity in healthcare, education, housing, and let’s not forget paying reparations for the harm done. That’s how we form a more perfect union, and that is what true progress looks like.
