Overseas voting. According to the Federal Voting Assistance Program (FVAP), there are approximately 2.9 million US citizens living abroad are not registered to vote. Almost all of them, 76%, would vote Democrat if they were registered. That is 2,204,000 Democratic votes we are leaving on the table overseas.
Why are they not voting? Why are they not registered? Because most of them don’t think they’re eligible to vote if they live overseas, but they are eligible to vote if they live overseas. Many Americans vote from overseas and can make a difference in close elections. They made a difference in the 2020 elections in Georgia and Arizona, where record numbers of overseas voters turned out.
In the 2008 United States presidential election, Barack Obama won the popular vote by a margin of over 7 million votes. However, he won the electoral college by a much narrower margin, and overseas votes played a significant role in his victory. Overseas votes accounted for about 10% of the total vote.

If you are a United States or dual citizen and live overseas, even if you’ve never lived in the United States, you can vote in federal elections. It means you can vote for president, congress, and senate; in some states, they’ll even let you vote for the state legislature. And don’t worry if you never registered when you lived in the United States. It doesn’t matter. You can register overseas, and your ballot will be counted.
States must count every valid ballot received before an election result can be certified. You can go to VoteFromAbroad.org or DemocratsAbroad.org. Both websites will tell you more about registering and voting.
2024 is going to be close. If we want Biden to beat Trump, we need every vote we can get from every source we can find. The future of our country, our democracy, and very much our planet may come down to how many of those 2.9 million people get registered and vote in the next year.
Please help. Spread this if you know anyone overseas or just share it everywhere so others know about it. If you know anyone overseas who is registered to vote, remind them to vote.
