Florida Governor Ron DeSantis is replacing history with propaganda as part of his anti-woke agenda and slavery. Here’s the first formal attempt to reeducate the masses. Remember, what is going on in Florida is what Republican politicians and their conservative backers want to bring to America.
It’s come from the Florida State Academic Standards of 2023 and approved by the Florida Board of Education and governor how race can teach in Florida schools.
What’s Being Taught
The propaganda appears on page 6 of this document. The statement appears in a document section that lists events that involved or affected African Americans. From the founding of the nation through reconstruction (1865-1877).
The Florida Board of Education and Ron DeSantis changed the curriculum to teach students how some enslaved African Americans learned skills that would benefit them. They might have learned new skills, but did African Americans benefit from learning new skills? Not at all.
Let’s be clear, the Florida Board of Education approved a change to the curriculum requiring teachers to teach students that slavery had some benefits for enslaved people. Ron DeSantis wants to raise a generation of Floridians who believe that slavery was beneficial to the slaves.
Our country, our Congress, passed laws that allowed human beings to be purchased and sold. It allowed families to be separated so that the children could be owned by adults and forced to work in fields.
Rewriting Your Brain And History
The United States government codified the right for owners to punish their slaves physically. And exclude the slave owner from blame if punishment led to death.
Ron DeSantis wants to force educational content by the government to teach children that enslavement was advantageous to the slaves. This is a coordinated assault by the Republican Party and its billionaire conservative, evangelical culture Christian backers.
You can see it in attempts from other states like Texas to rename slavery into “involuntary relocation.” Luckily this was a failed attempt. You can also see it in the new PragerU YouTube videos that will be acceptable for Florida teachers to use.
This is a full-on attack. It’s an attempt to rewrite history by people like Ron DeSantis and Dennis Prager to avoid questioning and ensure the continued power of a political faction that wants to compress rights for most Americans continuously.
Remember that these people present these ideas, and some people will believe them. They know that a lot of their supporters will fall for this stuff. It’s important to teach the truth and all of history to everyone. Not a white-washed version of history.
