2024 Election: The Urgent Need for Unity Not Division

In an article about the 2024 election and unity, this is a photo of people's hands in a circle holding hands.

The 2024 election. There is an intense division on the left, anger, fear, and feelings of betrayal. And it’s understandable.

We need to be unwilling to alienate others because of what has happened and what is happening.

We have warning lights of a second Trump presidency, or even a Republican presidency is planning stuff so terrifying, and we have warning lights telling us that they can win.

And they might win because we have a bunch of third-party candidates and people who are angry at Biden and will vote for third-party instead.

If people vote for a third-party candidate or don’t vote, they may as well put a Trump sign in their yard because a third-party candidate will not win.

A Reminder Of What Trump Wants

Recently, Trump said in a speech at Claremont, New Hampshire, “We pledge to you that we will root out the Communists, Marxists, fascists, and the radical-left thugs that live like vermin within the confines of our country—that lie and steal and cheat on elections.”

If Trump wins the 2024 election, we’re looking at a Muslim ban, a bigger one than last time. We’re looking at shoplifters getting shot without due process. That’s something he says he wants to do.

Trump wants to do stop-and-frisk. He wants to deport millions of undocumented people. He wants to expel students who are protesting Israel’s policies. Deport them.

Suppose you speak out on social media about politicians you like and don’t like. In that case, you’ll lose that ability with a Trump or Republican presidency, even if you speak out for the politicians you want and support.

Trump will root out politicians who are against him. He will come after using the Justice Department, everybody who criticizes him. And most likely, you can kiss free and fair elections, assuming we can vote. It’s all very grave.

We Can’t Beat Them If We Are Divided

If we are divided, we can’t beat a Republican presidency.

We need to search within ourselves for the part of us that can rise above our anger and our distrust and remember that we all need to be on one side.

We can disagree and have areas that we don’t talk about because they piss us off. That’s the enemy—that movement, MAGA, will take away our ability to address anything else.

If you’re an advocate for climate action, forget it. It will be gone under a Trump presidency.

Trump will undo every policy Biden has passed. He will expand oil and gas drilling. On gun violence, he wants to arm teachers in the classroom. Forget common sense gun laws. It will not happen.

We don’t need to defend Joe Biden in what’s happening now. The high stakes will be catastrophic if Joe Biden loses in a 2024 election.

We’ve got to find a way to unify and be here to fight next year to get us through these elections.
