They are attempting to slash climate spending in the upcoming appropriations bills because the oil and gas industry owns the Republican party.

Republicans have added about a dozen provisions to the annual appropriations bills that cut climate funding. They’re being hashed out in the appropriations committee, where they go before they go to the House floor for a vote. The committee is currently chaired by Republican Kay Granger from Texas, who has taken nearly $1.2 million from the oil and gas sector throughout her career in Congress. She has fought to prevent spending on climate change.

More Republicans Fighting Funding Climate Change

Another top Republican working to gut climate funding is Republican Hal Rogers from Kentucky. He’s raised more than half a million dollars from the mining industry throughout his career and $390,000 from the oil and gas industry. He’s working to block the government from using funds to carry out climate-related Biden executive orders. Republicans are against climate change.

Republicans are also trying to defund a Biden order from April 2022 to enhance the federal government’s forest stewardship and promote climate-smart stewardship of mature and old-growth forests.

They’re also trying to permanently rescind $1.3 billion in grant funding under the Clean Air Act to mitigate the effects of air pollution. Those provisions are being overseen by Rep. Mario Diaz-Balart, a Republican from Florida, who has received nearly $430,000 in campaign contributions from the energy and natural resources industry during his time in office. Ironically, parts of his district are most likely to soon be underwater due to rising sea levels, a way to serve your constituents.

Republicans are also trying to bar funding for the Green Climate and Clean Technology Fund.

Mike Pence wants to eliminate the EPA.

Ron DeSantis’ climate policies have been called catastrophic.

Donald Trump did so much damage in four years that some will never be undone, no matter what Joe Biden does.

When it comes to climate, Republicans present a clear and present danger. Vote accordingly, or it’s going to get a hell of a lot hotter.
