Common sense gun laws are needed now! In Florida, a white supremacist used an AR-15-style to mass murder three black people in a targeted racist attack.
In Florida, the state law demands that even white supremacists have easy access to firearms.
But they also forbid any child to learn about the history of white supremacists and how they targeted and mass murdered black people.
In May 2023, the NAACP issued a travel advisory warning for black people due to Florida’s racist laws. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis called the advisory “a stunt.” Did he work tirelessly to eradicate that label? No.
Let’s be clear: this wasn’t a random, unpredictable terrorist attack. This was the inevitable outcome of state-sanctioned white supremacy from the governor’s Florida laws.
Remember, they use the word woke because the N-word is no longer acceptable. They mean black people when they say woke. So when Governor Ron DeSantis says, “Florida is where woke goes to die.” It’s not just hyperbole.
He’s enacting policies enabling racists to be empowered and engaged in terrorism.
Ron DeSantis and any other politician like him, as well as the Republican party who are complicit in this, are the American killers. They are our killers. The American people’s killers. The American people voted them into office, and we can and need to vote them out. Or the killing, unchanged, will continue.
They are the domestic terrorists who are destroying America. This includes the lobbyists and hidden culture-Christian conservative groups who back the Republican party.
Leaders Who Embrace Common Sense Gun Laws
We need to ensure we have leaders in Congress, in our state representatives, who are true champions of justice.
The possibility of this event happening is the result of policy choices.
This results from ineffective laws that have been passed for a long time. We have tolerated lawmakers far too long who have passed laws allowing something like this to happen.
We have a market flooded with weapons of war. And the entire Republican party will not admit we have a racism problem.
There Is A Solution
There are politicians who will pass common-sense gun laws. We have seen it happen in Michigan, Minnesota, and other states where we have flipped state houses.
Have you seen how quickly Democrats have come together and passed common-sense gun laws? They have passed laws to protect marginalized communities? Not to mention the laws to protect unions and clean the environment.
It is possible to live another way.
It’s easy to forget that when the bad news is so relentless, it will take time and never be a perfect fix. But we can change this with policy.
Anyone telling you otherwise wants you to stay home and not vote. We can elect politicians who will change the gun laws in this country.
We can elect and continue to reelect politicians like Joe Biden, who work tirelessly for unity and progress. That is something we can do. We are not powerless.
If you do not vote or vote for politicians who can’t win or Republicans, ask yourself, do you want to keep living in a country of carnage where none of us are free? Or do I want to elect politicians who actually will legislate to change? Because it can be done.
