Exposing Extremism: The Speaker Of The House Helps Democrats

A photo of sunlight shining through trees on a road in an article about exposing extremism.

A silver lining to Mike Johnson being the speaker of the House for the GOP will be exposing extremism. Americans don’t like extremism. Since 2016, Americans have voted against the MAGA movement.

One thing to consider about extremism and the Republican Party, for example, is abortion bans. Republicans ignore the devastation they are bringing to themselves by supporting abortion bans.

This issue alone devalues their intent, their character, and the devaluing of women and girls in their own families and friends. Abortion is between a woman and her doctor.

A timeline of hope for Americans who are not on the side of MAGA:

  • 2016: Trump won. Then look what’s happened.
  • 2018: The Republicans lost the House.
  • 2020: They lost the presidency.
  • 2021: They lost the Senate
  • 2022: They lost one more Senate seat, three governors, and five state legislatures.

There have been 23 special elections since 2022. In those elections, the Democrats outperformed by eight points. That doesn’t always mean that the Democrats are winning, but it does mean the extreme Republicans are not winning by as much.

The city of Franklin had a local election where there were MAGA candidates. They didn’t win. It’s extremely red Trump country.

How Does This Help With Exposing Extremism?

Mike Johnson is shining the spotlight even brighter on the extreme views of Christian Nationalism.

Christian Nationalists have taken over the Republican Party and writing all kinds of unpopular laws. Laws include taking away your rights, continuing to marginalize the marginalized, and increasing the wealth of Republican billionaire supporters.

That’s why Mike Johnson could be a silver lining. Because now, the mainstream media that has ignored Christian Nationalists will shine the spotlight on them. And most folks who don’t have time to follow politics will begin to understand.

Exposing the extremism of the Republican Party even more. We need that.

So yes, is it wrong that he’s the speaker of the House? Absolutely. But here are the bright spots:

  1. We’ve got a Democratic Senate.
  2. We also have a president who will veto any crazy stuff the Speaker of the House tries to pull.
  3. The Speaker will shine a spotlight on the extremism of the far right.

Democrats can now rally and organize around that to help win elections for themselves.
