Gun Violence Prevention: President Biden’s New Office

In an article on gun violence prevention, a child holds a sign that reads, "no more guns."

Here are some great things about the new office on gun violence prevention.

Three incredible people will run the office. Two of them have experience as gun violence survivors themselves. All three of them are experienced in this space.

Vice President Harris will oversee the office.

Here are four mandates President Biden gave them:

  1. To ensure that the Safer Communities Act passed in 2022, the first gun violence prevention bill in 30 years, is properly and thoroughly Implemented. President Biden has issued 40 Executive orders addressing gun violence in our country. He wants to make sure that those are fully implemented as well.
  2. President Biden wants the new office to get creative and create more executive orders he can issue. These orders will be issued while Congress remains deadlocked because Republicans have controlled the house.
  3. Work on partnerships with cities and states.
  4. To work with the communities that are impacted by gun violence. This is much more important than it sounds.

For example, when there’s a natural disaster in this country, FEMA shows up.

But when we have a mass shooting, who shows up? The FBI. They deal with the legal aspects of it.

This new office will also show up. They will work with all the agencies to ensure a multi-pronged approach to every gun violence event.

The Safer Communities Act

One of the things The Safer Communities Act did was have enhanced background checks. This was for people under 21.

In the brief time the bill has been implemented, they have stopped 200 purchases by people under 21 who were not supposed to have access to firearms.

Think about the mass shootings that might have been prevented.

Most mass shootings are done by people under 21 years old. Think of the suicides this might have stopped. Think of the crimes that have been stopped. This office will continue to help with expanding the implementation of that policy.

The Department Of Justice And Gun Violence Prevention

In addition, the Department of Justice announced that it is giving out 4.4 billion dollars in grants nationwide to prevent gun violence. That is significant.

Like this and all of the prevented deaths from the Safer Communities Act, these are things we will not hear about on the news because they’re prevented incidents.

We need to know that elections matter. This kind of thing will never happen under a Republican administration.

And if Trump wins office again because people decide to go out and vote third party, we’ll lose all of this. That’s why everyone must vote for Joe Biden in 2024. There’s too much at stake.

The Gun Violence Prevention office is measurable progress; we should be screaming it from the rooftops.

As long as we can keep Democrats in power, this is the beginning of what this office will do.

This should make you feel more hopeful.

That’s why it’s essential to work hard to win elections.
