Hastening The Kingdom: The Hope For Divine Acceleration

An article about hastening the kingdom of heaven shows an image of an open Bible on a table facing a sunset.

Some evangelical Christians believe they can force the second coming of Jesus. This has been referred to as hastening the kingdom of heaven. Here are two Bible verses that talk about this.

“Waiting for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens will be set on fire and dissolved, and the heavenly bodies will melt as they burn!”

2 Peter 3:12 (NASB)

“From the days of John the Baptist until now, the kingdom of heaven has been forcefully advancing, and forceful men lay hold of it.”

Matthew 11:12 (NIV)

Some evangelicals believe that that implies there is a way to create action here on earth that can hasten the kingdom of heaven. And what we don’t do is anything to prevent it.

That is why some Christians believe we don’t need to do anything about climate change. Or believing we don’t need to do anything to protect the earth.

Or Christians who believe in the Seven Mountains Mandate, which says Christians need to control all aspects of society.

The Environmental Protection Agency

They see no need for things like the Environmental Protection Agency. And why is that?

Because it’s all going to be restored, and we’re all going to live happily ever after or at least a thousand years when Jesus returns.

They believe that in the end times of prophecy, certain things must happen before the rapture happens and Jesus returns.

If they can help hasten some of those things to happen, then Jesus returns, and Christians will dominate the world. At least, that’s their hope.

They believe that they have an active participation in the coming of Jesus.

Christian Zionism And The Support Of Israel

This explains Christian Zionism and their support of Israel. They see Israel having to be a part of the Holy Land, not because they see Israel’s right to it.

They believe in replacement theology. Replacement theology means that anything that happened before Jesus came into the world, none of that matters.

The new covenant is with Jesus and the Christians. In essence, that land belongs to Christians.

A forceful approach, then, is hastening the kingdom of heaven. Initiated by evangelical Christians.

A common prayer among Christian denominations is “Come, Lord Jesus. Now, Lord Jesus. Come back. Save us.”
