Two Canadian moms say that their nine-year-old daughter was competing in a shot put final at a track and field event when the grandfather of one of the other participants decided to reveal his command of hate speech and started yelling at her.

She was competing in the fourth-grade shot put final, and right before she went to throw, another competitor’s grandfather came up and said, “Hey, this is supposed to be a girl’s event.”
She’s nine years old.
Why are you letting boys compete? The nine-year-old little girl is a girl and identifies as a girl.
She’s a little girl. She has a pixie haircut.
The grandfather stopped the entire event. He pointed at another short-haired girl and yelled, “Well, she’s not a boy. She’s trans.”
Grandma Gets Involved Too
The grandfather’s wife started yelling at the two mothers, calling them genital mutilators, groomers, and pedophiles.
The girl’s mother said the incident affected their nine-year-old daughter’s confidence.
This has destroyed our beautiful daughter’s confidence, and she was crying inconsolably during this whole event and continued once it was over and we were leaving.
She could not concentrate on her track and field finals, and the shot put throw for which she qualified.

It was Canada. There are an unimaginable number of MAGA types in Canada. Some think it’s worse in Canada than American MAGA types. They are going even further with the anti-pride, anti-trans, and anti-LGBTQ rhetoric. Spewing that everybody in the LGBTQ community is a groomer and pedophile.
We’re at a point where we individually need to decide what to do when we see something like this happening in our space. And that’s going to be a tough decision. But it needs to be called out the moment it happens.
The children are always watching.
