Issue One: Reproductive Rights at a Crossroads

In an article about Ohio Issue One, this is an image of the number one made out of a chain.

We know the Ohio Senate Republicans are on the wrong side of Issue One, which will be on the November 2023 ballot.

And to review, if voters approve, Issue One will enshrine reproductive rights into the Ohio Constitution.

If it fails, Ohio’s six-week abortion ban will likely remain in place.

If that ban is in place, that means women will be forced to give birth by their state government regardless of the circumstances, including rape.

Sit with that for a moment and think about the women and girls that will be affected.

And keep in mind the Republican senators who want a six-week abortion ban and how it will also impact the women and girls in their families.

It’s the same as putting all the women and girls in their families in harm’s way on purpose. I don’t know if they know what they are voting for or being highly paid to vote that way, which makes it even worse.

Ohio Republican senators who want a six-week abortion ban are putting themselves in place of a medical doctor.

Abortion is used for many reasons, and the mantra should always be that it’s a decision made between a woman and her medical physician only.

The Senate Republicans know that two-thirds of Ohioans think the six-week abortion ban is a terrible idea.

Based on political affiliation, over 90% of Democrats think it’s terrible. 40% of Republicans think the six-week abortion ban is bad. 70% of independent voters think it’s terrible.

A survey showed that 84% of people in Ohio agree that if a woman gets pregnant because of a sexual assault, she should not be forced to have the attacker’s baby.

But the Republicans in the Ohio Senate disagree.

Opposing Issue One

They are trying to push this unpopular idea onto Ohio voters while also trying to find a way to win a vote on abortion, even if it doesn’t change anything.

The Ohio Senate recently approved a resolution to oppose Issue One. This might have been the most irrelevant vote they’ve taken in the Senate all year. Every Democrat voted no, and every Republican voted yes.

What does this resolution mean? Not a damn thing. It was performative. This might have been the most useless thing they’ve ever voted on.

Ohio, your freedom and bodily integrity are on the ballot this November 7th, 2023.

It’s your decision and your decision only. If you want to ensure your healthcare decisions are made between you and your doctor, vote YES on Issue One.

If you want to decide when and how you will grow your family, vote YES on Issue One.

The same people who passed the heartbeat bill brought this sham resolution to you. They don’t want to be told how extreme they are. Don’t be confused by their phony resolution.

Take back your rights, Ohioans! Vote YES on Issue One on or before November 7th, 2023.
