Putting Them In Harm’s Way

Imagine the opposite. Imagine if everyone supported their decision. Imagine if everyone was concerned about the health of the mother, first.

In 2022, based on the court’s overturning of Roe v. Wade, it became clear from the conservative side of the court, which is the majority, that their decisions were bought by wealthy conservative groups that promote white christian evangelical nationalism.

Side note: Don’t become emotionally attached to the words “Christian” and “evangelical”. People are using those words to hide behind. Those words have nothing to do with the destructive actions these groups are doing. They might as well be called white criminal nationalists.

The court’s decision single-handedly destroyed America and gave them the license to unalive pregnant women and girls by governors in republican states. Governors who are being paid to enact abortion policies written by outside white christian evangelical nationalists groups that put American women’s and girls’ lives at stake.

The undeveloped, unborn baby has more rights than our women and girls in America, due to abortion legislation going on in our country by these groups and their republican pets.

And so in a tweet someone posted at the beginning of 2023, justice Roberts stated, and I’m paraphrasing, “It’s not right the justices don’t feel safe.” To which I replied, “It’s not right the American people don’t feel safe.”

Here’s the deal, a lot of these republican governors post their beautiful family pictures on their websites that include their kids and grandkids. So the question becomes, if one of those underage girls in those photos becomes pregnant by whatever means, and is put in an unhealthy state that could risk her life, does the governor then stand by their decision that abortion should NOT be a healthcare option?

Those governors damn well know, they would do whatever it takes to save the life of the mother, who could be their own daughter or granddaughter, who could be as young as 9 years old, 10 years old, or 14 years old, as evidenced by some of the cases we saw in 2022. You can’t tell me they would look into the face of one of their under-age granddaughters and say, “Yes, this is god’s will, we have to end your life to save the baby’s life you are carrying.”

And so sit with that today. This is the republican party that supports this legislation. Legislation that is written by conservative groups like the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC), who support, and I’ll add control, republican governors.

The abortion legislation that is forced on women and girls, becomes performative, for money. And in the process, American women and girls, that Governors represent, and could be their own daughters and granddaughters, are put in harm’s way, at death’s door.

Take Action:

One: Look at your own family and think about this before you vote republican. If your republican representatives believe anything other than a woman’s right to abortion is a healthcare decision between her and her doctor, DO NOT VOTE for republicans. Imagine what the opposite would look like if all women and girls were protected by every single governor in this country.

Two: Beware of fake abortion clinics that have become known as “Crisis Pregnancy Centers”. They will lie and deceive you. Spread the word.

Three: When abortion-related issues come up in your state, call or email your representatives about what you think. If you need them, there are scripts on the internet that can help you formulate what you’re thinking on the abortion issue so you can provide input to your representatives.

Four: Subscribe to and listen to Jessica Valenti’s newsletter and podcast.

Five: Donate to reputable abortion organizations like Planned Parenthood.

Six: Stop believing the republicans when they chat, “Democrats want to abort right up to the time of birth.” This is a far-right, alt-right, Fox News and their ilk talking point to sway people who can’t think for themselves. Stop watching and blindly believing.
