It’s happening. Here’s the result of snitching the republican politicians and their white evangelical christian nationalist backers are counting on.
You can read more about Rebeka Jones here and her ongoing harassment and flex by the Governor of Florida. But the point here is her 13-year-old son was arrested and taken in overnight by police based on someone who snitched on him posting a meme online.
As I read the story I kept thinking about what Jessica Valenti talks about in her article Abortion & Snitch Culture and the question many people have about, “How are the police going to stop women and girls from crossing state lines where abortion is banned to get an abortion out of state?”
They won’t be placing guards at the borders. They will be counting on the snitch culture, where friends, family, ex-boyfriends, etc. snitch on the person, after the fact, who crossed a state border to have an abortion.
They are counting on us to tattle on each other instead of helping each other. And unfortunately, it’s working.
However, we are the majority. The republican party is a dying party because they don’t have solutions to our problems. They don’t have policies for anything and they know the bills they are introducing are not popular with the majority in America. Republican politicians are abusing their power right now because they are a sinking ship.
Expect them to throw everything they’ve got at us. Don’t let them disenfranchise you. Soon, they will see they are outnumbered. Do not lose faith. Don’t let them shut down your voice. Your voice is powerful. When the opportunity arises, vote them out. Your vote matters. Change is coming.
