Virginia Elections: The Repercussions Of The 2023 Elections

Virginia elections are coming up on November 7th, 2023. Early voting has already started. The entire state legislature is up for grabs.

Governor Glenn Youngkin and his billionaire friends have poured millions of dollars into these races. You might not live in Virginia, but these elections matter to everyone in the United States.

Glenn Youngkin is a template Republican that the Republican Party wants to move forward with after Trump. What he’s doing in Virginia right now is trying a new formula on abortion. If it wins, they will try it all over the country, and it is not a formula we want.

Youngkin is proposing a “moderate” abortion ban. He wants to ban abortion after 15 weeks. He says there will be exceptions for rape, incest, and the health of the mother. Even though we know that in practice, those exceptions are never honored, it will be a complete abortion ban no matter what.

Virginia Elections: Nationwide Repercussions

Ask the 13-year-old rape victim in Mississippi.

Ask the women in Texas who are suing the state of Texas because they could not have abortions. Even though their fetuses were non-viable and they were in danger of dying from their pregnancy.

Republicans have been writing abortion exception clauses into laws. They think their voters are too stupid to realize they don’t mean what they say. Republicans know that their abortion bans are super unpopular.

They have been using language like, “We need a national standard on abortion” or “We need a consensus on abortion.” They are changing the language to exclude the word “ban.”

They will even profess, “No, we don’t want an abortion ban.” But in reality, no matter how they say it or frame it, Republicans want a complete abortion ban with no exceptions.

Glenn Youngkin understands this very well. He has his candidates in Virginia running on a 15-week abortion ban. If they win, the National Republican Party is going to take this technique nationwide, and we’re going to get a nationwide ban.

But as soon as it passes, they will ratchet it back to six weeks.

We have to stop it. Early vote totals must be higher for the Virginia elections on November 7th, 2023.

Talk to somebody you know who lives in the state or share it on social media. Tell them to get out their vote.

We need to help to win in Virginia. If you want our nation to have abortion care anywhere, we must win races in Virginia.

Check your voter registration often because of voter suppression by Republicans. And then vote Democrat!
