Banning Books and Destroying Public Education

White Christian Nationalists aka White Evangelical Christians, are trying to take over this country including taking over school boards and public education.

Their goals include banning books, instilling “conservative Christian values”, and rewriting and whitewashing the teaching of history. As well as diverting public money to private schools. However, their definition of Christianity has nothing to do with the values of Christianity as we know it. The word Christian and Christianity have become words for them to hide behind.

They are backed by billions of dollars and they have the staying power to work on this for decades and they have.

There are ways to fight back and one big way is by paying attention to who is running for and being elected to our local school boards and making sure these people are not voted in.

Another way is for the public, parents, and young people to show up at school board meetings to push back. And no matter what the outcome of these school boards, future elections, and student organizations as well as parents organizing can help combat this.

At the rate that this is happening, it might take decades to undo. It’s not going to be simple. But it’s worth the long-term fight to maintain our freedoms.

Anyone behind these boards and their outcomes reminds me of Liz Cheney’s declaration during the January 6th, 2020 investigations regarding the 45th president of the united states. I’ll paraphrase by removing his name and rewriting it with those who are trying to destroy America: “There will come a day when you are gone, but your dishonor will remain”.

Keeping the end goal in mind, which is the opposite of what they are going after, the goal becomes, what greatness could be done if our public schools were well-funded and all students were supported. That, my friends, would lead to a great country.

Kids become pre-teens, pre-teens become teens, teens become young adults, and young adults become adults. Along the way, they will learn the truth. They are always watching.

Quick Browser Tip: To view any of the articles mentioned in this post that are behind paywalls, you might want to turn off JavaScript in your browser. This doesn’t work 100% of the time but for me, I’d say 99% of the time.

There’s also a Google Chrome extension I use that allows me to turn Javascript off and on as I need to and makes it a lot easier to do as I run into articles that are behind paywalls.

If you don’t want to install an extension, you can access your JavaScript settings by typing in and entering this into a browser tab: chrome://settings/content/javascript. Just make sure you turn it back on when you’re done reading the article so your browser behaves correctly for other sites.
