Ohio Issue One: Republicans Challenge Popular Vote

In an article about Ohio Issue One, this is a photo of a man standing in a field with this arms out stretched in victory.

Ohio Issue One. Well, Ohio, you won on Issue One. Or so you thought. They say you won by a huge margin. But wait. The Ohio Republican Party is mad because they lost.

The Ohio Republican Party has decided to go outside the law, become lawless, and say they are not going to abide by it.

They’re not going to abide by it because regardless of how you voted, they are claiming that it is their God-given right to restrict abortion access.

They have released a statement that says:

“The Ohio legislature alone will consider what, if any, modifications to make to existing laws based on public hearings and input from legal experts on both sides.”

The translation is that they want to take the power away from the courts in Ohio. The strategy Republicans are now proposing would essentially strip Ohio’s courts of the authority to repeal existing restrictions.

Their announcement also said no amendment can overturn the God-given rights with which we were born. And they’re blaming your overwhelming victory on Tuesday night on foreign election interference. Let’s get the tin-foil hats out for them while we’re at it.

Ohio Issue One Results: Channeling Your Anger

This will make you angry, and it will make you feel hopeless. You might even be asking yourself, “Why does it matter? We vote, and they ignore us.”

And that’s precisely how they want you to think and feel.

They want you to feel like, what is the use? Every time I show up and use my voice, they take it away from me anyway. They want you to feel like your freedoms are no longer in your hands.

The Republican Party no longer believes in the will of the people. They don’t believe in free and fair elections. They don’t believe in the separation of church and state. But just because they don’t believe in those things doesn’t mean you and I shouldn’t believe in them.

And it doesn’t mean you and I shouldn’t fight like hell to save those things. So we’re going to do that. This will not stand just like they tried in Wisconsin, and it didn’t stand there because we fought back.

I know you’re going to feel despair. I know you’re going to feel angry. That is okay. But we are going to fight anyway, and we are going to win.
