Republicans Said They Wouldn’t Punish Women

For years, republicans have said they would never arrest or target or prosecute women for abortion. We knew it was a lie because they were doing that. They were arresting and prosecuting women for abortion even before Roe was overturned. But that was their rhetoric. That was their message. Now, they’re not even bothering with that message.

Here are states republicans are trying to classify abortion as a homicide.

Alabama republican Ernie Yarbrough says he will introduce legislation that will classify abortion as a homicide. Absolutely would arrest and prosecute women.

Kentucky did the same thing. A Kentucky republican bill would also allow the state to charge a woman who has an abortion with murder—and is written in such a way that women could be arrested for ‘causing’ a miscarriage. House Bill 300, filed by republican Emily Callaway, a woman, would have abortion criminalized identically “to the homicide of a person who had been born alive.”

South Carolina republicans debated a bill that would make abortion a homicide punishable by the death penalty.

Republicans in Georgia introduced the Prenatal Equal Protection Act (HB496), which would make abortion after fertilization a homicide.

The damage has been done by republicans just by introducing these bills, whether they pass or not. All they want to do is punish women. Don’t listen to them when they say they don’t. The whole point has always been to punish women, and now they have been emboldened and empowered to do so.

Remember, this affects your mother, your daughter, your granddaughter, your sister, and all women in your life. So when you vote republican, this is what you are voting for. YOU are agreeing to this. These bills are backed by white evangelical christian nationalists that want to take away or control your rights based on what they believe, not what you believe. Their actions have nothing to do with christianity.

Spread the word.

DON’T VOTE FOR REPUBLICANS!
