Teachers Teach. They Don’t Indoctrinate.

As republican politicians across the United States ban books and dictate how and what teachers are going to teach, teachers are being vilified as indoctrinating students.

It’s not the public school teacher’s job to tell their students what to think. And they don’t do that. Teachers guide students using a series of questions to discuss so they can come to their own conclusions.

Teachers don’t finish a lesson and ask, “Okay white kids, how are you feeling?”

Teachers don’t summarize a lesson and say, “Okay, here are my main points that you have to know from my point of view.”

Teachers want their students to come to conclusions on their own. That’s what good teachers do.
