A big problem with democratic voters and young voters is that local elections and state legislatures are a second thought.
We turn out for presidential elections, senate races, and governor gubernatorial races. But when it comes to state legislatures, a lot of Americans don’t understand how much influence and power their state government has.
We’re learning this from watching Florida, Texas, and other republican-led states pass extreme legislation. Legislation that is not for the people. This should open people’s eyes to who represents them in their state and who their state representatives are.
Find your state legislators and what district you are in. Find your state’s legislature website so you can track the bills they are submitting. Figure out who your state representatives are. Figure out if there are empty seats and find somebody to run for them, maybe even you.
It’s important to start at the state level so we can undo the oppressive policies that are being passed and start passing legislation that works for the people.
So now is the time to fix our country, state by state.
