Justin Jones is giving a masterclass on the power of the scapegoat to speak the truth. The power of the scapegoat’s defiance to stand and speak truth to power.
Every American citizen should be proud.
To watch him walk back into that state house, putting his fist in the air, and talk about power to the people, directly to the people that tried to expel him, is about as powerful a symbol as we could have right now.
We need defiance. Every scapegoat, every marginalized group of people, and everybody living under the boot of oppression needs a healthy dose of defiance.
What we’re seeing is how a scapegoat in any system of oppression, be it a narcissistic family, or an oppressive government, their power is telling the truth as a means of survival.
They know the oppressor better than the oppressor knows themselves.
This is a young man that has history and a historical context on his side. He’s carrying a torch that needed to be picked up and he’s done that.
But we also know what this culture does to defiant scapegoats.
When we’re looking at what’s happening, we should be willing to see the power in what he’s doing, to see the courage in what he’s doing, to see the defiance. It’s power to the people. We need to bring more of that into the now.
Justin Jones is doing a masterful job of changing the conversation of standing up to the power structures and speaking direct truth to those that would rather bury it.
He is already an American hero. We need to recognize the power and courage that Justin displays.
