Great news! Democrats had three very big wins in May 2023 elections. First, in what is being called a major upset, democrat Donna Deegan won her mayoral race in Jacksonville, Florida.
She’ll be the first woman ever to hold the seat and only the second Democrat in 30 years to do so. Jacksonville is considered a red city. Also, Deegan’s opponent was endorsed by Ron DeSantis.
Democrat Heather Boyd won her special election in Pennsylvania House District 163. Boyd’s win enables Democrats to keep their one-seat majority in the Pennsylvania State House, which ensures, among other things, that Pennsylvania Republicans will not be able to pass an abortion ban.
There’s more. Yemi Mobileade, a political newcomer and an immigrant to the United States, won the Colorado Springs mayor’s race. He will be the first black mayor ever in what is considered to be an extremely red city.
One final point about all of these incredible wins. In almost every race, we were dramatically outspent by Republicans, proving once again that the many are more powerful than the money.
Here’s the most important point, Republicans were not supposed to lose that Florida or that Colorado Spring seat, and they tried really hard to win the Pennsylvania one, too. But they lost all of them. Why? Because Democrats run great candidates.
We now have a massive, highly seasoned, and engaged volunteer base, we’re exceptionally good at turning voters out. And because the Republican Party has become the party of violent extremism, they are coming for our freedoms. And Americans can see it. They’re hemorrhaging voters because of it. None of that is about to change.
Celebrate these victories. Have a great day!
