Dominion Theology: The Next Big Threat To Democracy

Mike Pence unveiled his economic proposal should he become president. This has everything to do with Christian nationalism and Dominion Theology.

Mike Pence epitomizes the white Christian male who represents religious patriarchy. If you are like many people, you had a lot of negative experiences with that.

The Proposal

Mike Pence says that his economic proposal will address inflation. On the surface, that sounds good, but you know the devil is in the details. Let’s start with the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau that Pence wants to eliminate. The CFPB was founded in 2008. Why is that date significant? Because that’s the year America spiraled into the most severe financial crisis since the Great Depression.

Many people were put into adjustable-rate mortgages, which can have higher interest rates than fixed-rate mortgages. When interest rates increased, many people could no longer afford their mortgages and went into foreclosure.

This was a result of predatory lending practices, and that’s what the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau protects us against. So, of course, let’s do away with it because who cares about the consumer, right? Let’s continue.

Start Eliminating

Mike Pence wants to eliminate the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). The EPA is a federal agency established in the 1970s to protect human health and the environment. It has succeeded, but Pence believes it is no longer needed. He argues that we can rely on big corporations to care for our environment. However, this is a dangerous and irresponsible idea.

Big corporations have a history of polluting the environment and putting profits ahead of people’s health. The EPA is essential for ensuring that our air and water are safe. We cannot afford to lose it.

The EPA is not perfect. The political party can influence it in power, and it sometimes does not do enough to protect the environment. However, we would be in a much worse situation without the EPA.

We are already seeing the effects of climate change, such as extreme heat and rising sea levels. Pence’s plan to eliminate the EPA is dangerous and irresponsible. The idea is supported by those who do not care about the environment or the health of future generations, including Mike Pence.

Who Would Support This?

Christians. Mainly evangelical Christians, and many Christians support Mike Pence and Donald Trump. This is because Pence and Trump have both expressed support for Dominion Theology, which is the belief that Christians are divinely mandated to be in power over the entire earth. Pence has even said that Americans do not have the right to freedom from religion, which violates the First Amendment.

People who believe in Dominion Theology believe:

  • Humans have the right to use all of the resources on Earth, even if it means destroying them.
  • The Earth is a temporary place and the most important thing is converting people to Christianity.
  • The destruction of the Earth is a good thing because it will bring about the second coming of Jesus.
  • They believe that the Bible teaches that the Earth will be destroyed by fire and that all things happening right now are signs that the end is near.

This is why they don’t care about how animals are treated, the waterways’ pollution, or many social justice issues that people outside of Christianity care about.

I’m referring to evangelical Christians in high-controlled denominations. Don’t say, “Not all Christians.” This is a dangerous blurring of the line between personal religious beliefs and the power and control of our nation.

Mike Pence is signaling to his base that he wants their support. He’s letting them know, without saying it out loud, that he believes Jesus is returning soon. He also believes that the faster we destroy the environment, the quicker Jesus will return. He believes that the rest of us will go to hell if we don’t convert to his type of Christianity.

Dominion Theology Is A Danger

Dominion Theology is a dangerous and toxic ideology gaining popularity in the United States. It is important to pay attention to the presidential candidates who support this ideology, as they are not interested in representing all Americans. They only want to ensure that power remains in the hands of those who look, love, like, and believe like them. This is a threat to our democracy and our way of life.
