What happens when a state flips from red (republican) to blue (democrat)? Let’s take a look at Minnesota.
In 2022, Minnesota flipped the state legislature from republican control to democratic control.
In the chamber, two seats flipped by the slimmest of margins. The first seat won by 321 votes and the other seat won by 703 votes. So don’t let anyone tell you that your vote doesn’t matter.
Minnesota Democrats have control of their governorship, state senate, and state house. That’s called a trifecta. After five weeks, the Minnesota legislature has already delivered huge victories.
What did they do? They passed the Pro Act and signed it law. The pro act ensures a right to abortion and reproductive health care for all people in Minnesota.
Next, they passed legislation making Minnesota a clean energy leader in the country. Minnesota is on track to be 100% renewable energy by the year 2040.
The Minnesota House passed Paid Family Medical Leave. It’s in their state senate now and looking to pass and be signed into law by the governor. And that’s in the first five weeks.
All while the GOP is fighting their culture wars, banning books, othering trans kids, etc. The Minnesota democrats are delivering for working families, the environment, and women. Many organized groups including Take Action Minnesota have helped accomplish this.
Minnesota is a vision of what can be accomplished when we elect democrats and fight for progressive issues. Vote democrat to build a strong democracy and a more equitable America.
