Pushing Back on LGBTQ+ Hate

The verbal and physical attacks on our LGBTQ+ brothers and sisters are increasing.

The thugs doing this are encouraged by republican politicians. These politicians are pushing anti-LGBTQ+ bills across the country. For example, in 2022, 315 anti-LGBTQ+ bills were introduced, with 29 signed into law. This is the most significant number of bigoted bills introduced and passed in at least a decade.

As of December 2022, Glad Inequality Texas found more than 141 anti-LGBTQ+ protests and threats targeting drag events occurring in all but three states.

Seventy-one percent of LGBTQ+ centers report experiencing threats of harassment in the last two years alone. These incidents aren’t isolated. This is a nationally coordinated strategy by intolerant antidemocratic right-wing extremists. They seek to impose their radical, fundamentalist religious views on all Americans.

A new report by the Movement Advancement Project describes it from a broader perspective. It said it is a mistake to see 2023 as a moment of progress with a few setbacks. In reality, it is clear this is a war against LGBTQ+ people to exist in America.

Opponents are using dangerous and inflammatory rhetoric to vilify LGBTQ+ people. Anti-LGBTQ+ activists paint LGBTQ+ people as predators, and groomers, and incite violence against them. They seek to push LGBTQ+ people to the corners of society and have them fear for their lives.

Right-wing fanatics are wasting their time. They have zero chance of winning. Love for and from our LGBTQ+ brothers and sisters will always conquer hate.

There is only one answer to this vicious and vile right-wing campaign. When republicans try to push the LGBTQ+ community back into the closet, be twice as loud and three times as proud.

Action:

  1. Share LGBTQ+ stories everywhere on social media and with everyone in your life.
  2. Promote LGBTQ+ authors and banned books.
