How do you transform hate?

The Republican politicians who are spewing hate and authoritarian speech are not the problem. They are the symptom of a problem. The problem is what can and has followed. The problem is the cult surrounding the Republican party. The Republican politicians and their white, evangelical cultural Christian billionaire backers want people to hate each other over culture wars. That’s their base. That’s what they are hoping will keep them getting reelected and reelected. There’s a lot of money in keeping that hate train going.

Who Are These People?

They tend to be boomers. They tend to be gen-Xers. They’re white. They’re rich. They’re poor. They’re educated. They’re uneducated. They’re under-educated. And seem to hate modern life.

They see minorities rising, which is good, but they hate it. They see sexual moors changing, and they hate it. They’re scared to death of that, as evidenced by their hatred for the LGBTQ+ community.

Religion is having a diminishing impact in America. They want people in the church. They want a white, straight, church-going America. They use CThey’ve decided that democracy is their enemy, and to get what they want, they want a dictator. 

They come in the form of January 6th. They take down power stations. They start riots at school board meetings that turn into physical fights.

So How Do You Transform Hate?

I don’t think you can. You can organize. You can knock on doors. You can vote. You can get others to vote in every single election in every state. They all matter. You can phone bank. You can donate money. You can donate your time by volunteering. You can do small activist tasks that will help in the long run.

The future in America can be brighter and will be brighter. The haters are stuck. We can outlive them, out-love them, and convince the next generations to do the same.
